Philosophies
and Values of DeWinter Communications, Inc.
It just makes sense that most companies would
prefer to work with professionals who share similar values, and
have a solid
moral code.
So we will share some thoughts about what we believe and how we
like to do business. Here’s a look at our philosophies and values.
We believe in social and environmental responsibility.
Profitability is a good thing. And we’re not saying anyone should
give away the farm. But we believe it is possible and desirable to
do business in a way that benefits people and the environment. People,
after all, are a great natural resource. And until we discover another “Class
M” planet and have the technology to get there, Earth is the
only planet that we have. We are thrilled to work with companies that
want to help make the world a better place, socially and environmentally.
We operate on “Seventh Generation” principles.
Seventh Generation principles come from management philosophies of
the Iroquois nation. That is, when making decisions for the tribe,
the elders considered how the decision would affect the tribe seven
generations down the road. And if the action was not good for that “seventh
generation,” they didn’t do it. In short, we think long
term. And we encourage our clients to do the same.
We’re going to speak
our truth.
We don’t think you’re paying us to tell you what you want
to hear. We think you are paying us to give you our best professional
advice on matters in which we are consulting. You may not always agree
with us. And ultimately, you have the final say. But we will speak
our truth, even if you don’t agree or you don’t want to
hear it. Then, it’s up to you to decide what’s right for
you and your business.
We care for our clients like they are fledglings.
A bird that’s just learning to fly is a bird that needs special
care and attention. Simply put, we’re going to help you fly.
And we’re going to keep a close eye on you while you’re
learning to soar, and even after that.
We’ll spend your money like it’s
ours. Judiciously.
When you see our contracts, you’ll see a level of specifics
not always found in marketing plans and contracts. And we’ll
stick to that contract and work hard, not only to stay within budget,
but to save money when we can.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SPENDING YOUR MONEY:
WE DO NOT MARK UP EXPENSES, EXCEPT FOR A SMALL PERCENTAGE ON ADVERTISING BUYS. THIS
IS SIGNIFICANT. IT MEANS YOU WILL NOT PAY AN EXTRA 15-20 % (OR MORE) ON PRINTING FEES,
WEB DEVELOPMENT SERVICES, PHOTOGRAPHY, AND SUCH. IF YOU PAY IN ADVANCE
FOR ADVERTISING BUYS, WE WILL OBTAIN THE 15% AGENCY DISCOUNT AND PASS
10% OF THAT DISCOUNT BACK TO YOU. THERE ARE VERY FEW AGENCIES ON THE
PLANET WHO OPERATE THIS WAY.
We operate with integrity.
There are an awful lot of college programs on business ethics these
days. And frankly, we wonder why. It does not take a rocket scientist
or a great philosopher to know what’s right and wrong. In
fact, it’s pretty simple. Work hard. Bill fairly. Lead by
example. Just do what’s right. And what’s right is usually
pretty clear.
We are client advocates.
We think it’s pretty cool that we are paid to be optimistic.
It’s our job to find the best attributes of your company, and
its products and services -- and help you clearly convey them. To
the media. To customers, prospects and investors. To your employees.
We connect good people with other good people.
Once we get to know you, we will periodically put you in touch with
other good people who we think would make good partners, vendors,
potential investors, or just people we think you need to know. And
we’ll put you in touch with them at no charge.
We bring enthusiasm to the table.
Granted, none of us have won the lottery, and we do have to work.
But we feel fortunate that we are doing the work for which we are
suited. Work which we truly enjoy. Work we find interesting. In
short, we really look forward to coming to the office every day,
and we inject that enthusiasm into our work for our clients.
We’re committed to a lifetime of learning.
With the wide world of business, art, literature, music, philosophy,
history, and science – just to name a few – how could
anyone possibly be bored? When you get the know the members of this
network, you’ll be amazed at the diversity, interests, and
things our people are studying. This innate curiosity and willingness
to constantly learn – on a practical level – continues
to carve out new neural pathways in our brains. That helps our creativity.
And it makes for some damn fine conversations over a bottle of wine,
too.
