Courtney DeWinter has more than 25 years of experience in a dual-track
career that includes both journalism and communications consulting.
She has worked both as a reporter, staff writer, and managing editor,
and also as a marketing and public relations consultant and coach.
In 1996, she founded DeWinter Communications,
Inc., a communications and training firm located in Larimer Square,
downtown Denver’s
historic district. The firm offers marketing, branding, and PR strategy
and implementation services, presentation and media training, and
business writing.
DeWinter has an extensive background in marketing
and public relations. Through DeWinter Communications, she has handled
everything from branding
initiatives and ongoing media relations to speaking programs, product
launches, and presentation training. DeWinter also served for roughly
five years as a free-lance restaurant critic for 5280, Denver’s
city magazine.
Four Years of Full-time Media Experience
Prior to founding her own firm, DeWinter served for four years as
managing editor at Denver-based Weaver Publications, where she oversaw
the writing and editing of more than 15 100-page travel publications
per year, as well as developing and maintaining content for a Colorado
travel Web site.
Five Years of PR Agency Experience
Her five years of PR agency experience at Wells Communications, Inc.
and, subsequently, JohnstonWells PR included local, regional, and
national work for consumer products, technology, retail, hospitality,
construction/design, tourism, consumer products, real estate and
professional services companies, and non-profits.
Four Years of Corporate Communications Experience
At a Boulder, Colo.-based technology company, she handled public relations,
employee communications, sales support programs, and investor relations.
25 Years of Feature Story & Business
Writing Experience (ongoing)
Feature and business writing experience includes a position as a
staff writer/editor at a cable television guide, a communications
specialist
at a trade association, a free-lance business and features writer
for local and regional publications, and regular “ghost-writing” for
executives when by-lined articles have been secured with the media.
A Bona Fide Journalism Degree,
Secondary Study in Behavior Sciences and Healing Arts
A Chicago native, DeWinter graduated from Colorado State University
in 1981 with a degree in technical journalism, with an additional
study path in psychology. She also has trained at a basic level in
Neuro-linguistic
Programming (NLP), and is a certified master practitioner and master
teacher in Reiki (Japanese energy healing).
A Rich Work Life, A Life Rich in Passions
In her spare time, Ms. DeWinter extensively follows the offerings
of the American and foreign cinema; is an avid amateur photographer;
and trains weekly with two national champions in Latin ballroom
and swing dancing -- both for competitive and exhibition dancing.
She also is an experienced equestrian and horse owner who rides
mountain trails when weather and horse health permit.
